When fish food is imported to Australia legally it is exposed to Gamma Radiation emitted from radioactive forms of the element Cobalt (Cobalt 60) or of the element Cesium (Cesium 137). It is well known that food treated by these particular elements is perfectly safe for consumption, but in the trade-off for sterilisation, significant research has shown nutrient profile degradation. In particular, because Gel based fish diets aren’t processed with a protective outer pellet layer, the crucial nutrient value is lost as a direct result of Radiation sterilisation.
